GROUNDED DATA THEORY (GDT) APPLIED IN THE NON-FORMAL SETTING OF A ZOO IN THE AMAZON WITH STUDENTS WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD)
Conteúdo do artigo principal
Resumo
This article evaluates the application of Grounded Theory in experiences (GT) of students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at the Zoo of the Jungle Warfare Training Center (CIGS) in Manaus, Amazonas. The data derive from a single visit by three students (12–15 years old; 7th–9th grade) who answered semi-structured interviews; these are complemented by guided observation and a logbook. The interviews revealed learning expressed in short, yet informative and situated responses, triangulated with observation and the logbook. It discusses how constructivist GT allows for theorizing autistic experiences in non-formal contexts without imposing normative narrative patterns. It articulates evidence on variation in reports across prompts and the relational reading of communication. A constructivist Grounded Theory showed that students' experiences with ASD at the CIGS Zoo are a mediated process of exploration and meaning-making, in which environmental stimuli, emotional anchors, and relational security support situated learning, reinforcing the inclusive potential of non-formal spaces when mediation, self-regulation, and accessibility are structural dimensions.
