Peer Review Process

Prior to being forwarded to the reviewers, each submission undergoes a compliance check, which analyses whether the article adheres to the journal’s norms, presents the basic structure of a scientific article, and falls within the journal's proposed scope. A verification of similarity and the use of generative language models or other Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools is also conducted. The submission may be rejected at this stage, in which case the authors will receive a communication detailing the justification.

Ad hoc reviewers are selected from researchers holding a doctorate degree whose area of interest aligns with the article's subject matter. Institutional and regional diversity will be taken into account when selecting the names. Reviewers are nominated by the Scientific Editors and the journal’s Editors.

Reviewers receive the manuscripts with no authorship identification (double-blind review). In the case of preprints, where authorship is indicated, the evaluation will be conducted through a single-blind process, where only the identity of the reviewers is preserved.

Authors receive the transcribed reviews, with no identification of the reviewers' authorship, along with the editorial decision regarding the publication of their article. Editorial decisions are made by the scientific editors, based on the reviewers’ feedback.

Reviewers must submit their reports through the journal’s system, where the evaluation form is available. The recommendations may be: “Accept”“Minor Revisions Required”“Resubmit for Review” or “Reject”.

Accept: Authors are notified of the decision, receive the reviews, and the submission proceeds to the editorial process.

Minor Revisions Required: Approval of the manuscript is conditional upon the submission of a second version that addresses the recommendations made in the reviews. The author(s) have a 15-day period to submit the revised version with the alterations performed.

Resubmit for Review: The second version of the manuscript, following the recommended alterations, will undergo a new round of peer review, and may be accepted or rejected after this process. The author(s) have a 21-day period to submit the new version with the alterations performed.

The estimated time between the submission of an article and the first response from the peer review process is a minimum of eight months, based on the duration of the editorial processes of the journal's previous issues.
