Norms for the Presentation of Originals

The Igapó journal publishes only original and unpublished works in English, submitted through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform. Articles published on preprint platforms will be considered original provided they have not been simultaneously submitted for peer review in another journal. Submissions must be authored by researchers holding a doctorate degree or include authors with a doctorate degree as co-authors.

Every article submitted to the Igapó journal must be accompanied by a minimum of 150 words and a maximum of 250 words (approximately 1,000 to 1,700 characters with spaces) for the Abstract, and up to five Keywords. The Title, Abstract, and Keywords must be submitted in English within the same document as the main text. Authors may additionally include the Title, Abstract, and Keywords in Portuguese and Spanish, if desired. These must be included in the same document immediately following the English version.

Texts must be submitted in .doc, .docx, or .rtf format, using Arial font, 12-point size, and 1.5-line spacing on A4-sized paper. Margins must follow the standard of 3 cm for the top and left, and 2 cm for the bottom and right.

The writing standards adhere to the ABNT norms (Brazilian Association of Technical Standards). The main body of the text should be 12-point size; Tables, Figures, and Graphs should be 10-point size. Direct quotations exceeding 3 lines should be 10-point size, with a 4 cm left margin indentation and single-line spacing (1 point).

Manuscripts should have between 12 and 25 pages (approximately 75,000 characters with spaces), not including the initial information (titles, abstracts, and keywords), figures, charts, tables, and the reference list. All submissions undergo double-blind peer review.

The Igapó Scientific Journal provides a pre-formatted .doc template available for download.

Images – Each article may contain up to ten images, with respective captions and references, and an indication of their location within the text. Images must have a minimum resolution of 150 dpi in .tif, .jpg, or .png format, and should be submitted either embedded within the document or as a supplementary file during step 2 of the OJS submission process. We do not accept images composed of superimposed text from a word processor.

Tables, Charts, and Graphs – Tables and charts may be composed in Word and inserted directly into the article file.

Notes – Explanatory notes must be included as footnotes on the respective pages, numbered with Arabic numerals, and limited to a maximum of five lines. Bibliographical references should not be made in notes, but rather within the main body of the text.

ABNT Norms – The Igapó journal follows the technical norms of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards for manuscript submission.

References – Must form a single, alphabetical list at the end of the article. Links to the references should be provided where possible.

Documentary Sources – Documentary sources must be listed in footnotes, including all necessary information for the location of the documents (custodial institution, collection/fonds, call number, etc.).
