Abstract

This paper presents the development of an electronic module based on the Arduino platform aimed at optimizing indoor climate control systems. The device uses a PIR sensor to detect the absence of occupants and, after a configurable interval, activates an infrared emitter responsible for automatically turning off air conditioners. The proposed solution, which is low-cost and easy to implement, seeks to reduce electricity consumption without compromising thermal comfort, contributing to sustainability by avoiding waste and reducing carbon emissions. To assess its potential impact, the RedEE Public Buildings energy audit method was applied, estimating the energy savings and reduction in costs and CO₂ emissions that could be achieved in air-conditioned environments in a public building. The project responds to the demand for affordable automation alternatives, especially suitable for medium and small buildings, where commercial solutions are not feasible. It is hoped that the technology developed will encourage more efficient energy practices and promote the spread of affordable smart systems for energy consumption management.
